The possibility of signing Cristiano Ronaldo has previously been rejected by Bayern Munich despite recent claims that they have rekindled their interest in the Manchester United striker.
The Mail claims that Bayern officials recently travelled to England to speak with Ronaldo and his agent, Jorge Mendes, about the possibility of him joining them at the Allianz Arena.
The 37-year-future old’s at Old Trafford is now seriously in doubt after he attacked the organisation and manager Erik ten Hag in a fiery interview with Piers Morgan.
Before the full, 90-minute interview, which will air on TalkTV on Wednesday and Thursday evenings this week, the first excerpts of the lengthy interview have been made available on social media over the past few days.
Ronaldo insists that United have ‘betrayed’ him and that Ten Hag, who has regularly backed the Portugal captain in public, has ‘no respect’ for him.
After United’s disappointing relegation to the Europa League, Ronaldo wanted to leave the club during the summer transfer window in order to play in the Champions League. His name was connected to a number of clubs, but nothing concrete ever materialized.
Along with Chelsea and Napoli, Bayern was frequently mentioned as a potential buyer for the striker. Oliver Kahn, the chief executive of Bayern, recently admitted that although the club had discussed the possibility of signing Ronaldo internally, they ‘quickly dismissed’ it.
“We briefly discussed Ronaldo at Bayern and Dortmund probably did too,” Kahn, speaking to SportBILD, said last month. “We also see the big picture of the Bundesliga.
“Of course, superstars like Ronaldo are an important factor in attracting attention to the league. He is one of the greatest of the last decade. But we quickly dismissed that.”
In an effort to generate interest in himself ahead of the January transfer window, Ronaldo, who has only scored three goals for United this season, will try to put himself in the shop window during the World Cup.
Although his contract expires at the end of the current campaign, there is a very good chance that he will be let go as soon as possible in light of his most recent interview.
However, German outlet SportBILD has suggested that the Bundesliga’s top teams are not interested in signing him, despite reports that Bayern has recently held talks with Ronaldo and Mendes about the possibility of signing him.
